Baselios Thomas I Catholicose College of Engineering and Technology is a new generation Engineering college affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University with focus on “Excellance in Teaching”. The college is ISO 9001:2008 certified and approved by AICTE.
Baselios Thomas I Catholicos College of Engineering and Technology is situated in Arjun Hills, Koothattukulam on the Palai-Koothattukulam State Highway. The region borders Ernakulam, Kottayam and Idukki districts. The beautiful and the picturesque location of the institute is apt for pursuing higher education. The college is dedicated to provide excellent training to the aspiring youth of the society, irrespective of caste and creed. The patron and chairman of the college is Aboon Mor Dr.Baselios Thomas I, Catholicose of the East.
Civil Engineering is a pioneering branch of engineering, the art and science of designing the infrastructure for a society. ”Civilians” are in fact the true “nation builders” considered. They contribute in design and construction of bridges, tunnels, roads, railways, airways, dams, pipelines and major buildings. In addition, Civil Engineers safeguard the environment against pollution of air, land and water, by implementing proper treatment techniques and managing the natural resources for future generation. Civil Engineering is a wide ranging profession, including several separate specialized sub-disciplines and its history is linked to knowledge of structures, materials science, geography, geology, soils, hydrology, environment, mechanics and other fields.
Computer Science & Engineering:
The college offers a four year B.Tech degree in Computer Science & Engineering. The course structure includes Programming Languages, Computer Architecture, Operating System, Networking and Cloud Computing. Computer Science has become an integral part of our daily life, be it performing a simple calculation or booking an airline ticket. The growth of Internet has opened our doors to knowledge, the latest gadgets in the market is due to progress of computer technology.
Electrical & Electronics Engineering:
Electrical Engineering is a branch of Engineering that deals with the invention, design, development and commercial applications of electrical and electronics systems, components and devices. There is a wide variety of domains to which it applies.
Electronics & Communication Engineering:
The college offers a four year B. Tech degree in Electronics and Communication. The major goal of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering is to produce highly knowledgeable, competent and resourceful young engineers who can perform well in a wide variety of job profiles. The institution provides state-of-the-art facilities in this branch of engineering.
The college offers a four year B. Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering which is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines that applies the principles of engineering, physics and materials science for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. This is the largest Department of the Institution in terms of strength of students, technical staff and faculty. This engineering field requires an understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis, and electricity which are handled by well experienced staff with well planned infrastructural facilities. The department invests extra efforts for nurturing Competitive, Innovative and Entrepreneurship spirit through various programs conducted throughout the year.
Smart Class makes an easier and enjoyable experience. With pictures, graphs, videos and the like, concepts are explained in a simplified manner. The college boasts of fully furnished classrooms with state-of-the-art digital equipments. The teaching involves practical demonstrations that aids in easy understanding. The visuals and animations help students to grasp difficult concepts.
The college library has a growing collection of about 5000 books in various branches of Engineering, Technology and Sciences. There are also plenty of volumes dealing with Social Sciences and Literature. Reputed National and International Journals are also subscribed to provide latest information on the various subjects of study. The library has subscribed e-journals of IEEE and ASME, J-GATE and so on.
Central Computing Facility:
The Central Computing Facility (CCF) forms an important component of the Institute’s infrastructure, providing a wide spectrum of services to the students as well as faculty and staff involved in research and other academic activities.The CCF provides the support for them to have a hands-on feel of what they learn in the classrooms and enhance their computer skills. The CCF also supports research activities undertaken in the Institute.
The college is equipped with more than 400 BTC branded computers across the campus, providing a wide range of services that includes, e-books, technical videos and internet access to the students as well as faculty and staff involved in research and other academic activities. Each faculty is provided with a work station networked through Linux servers and Microsoft Windows servers. The entire campus is connected through Wi-Fi network.
Hostel facility is available for boys and girls. Currently only limited seats are available for hostel accommodation. Both AC and non-AC rooms on shared basis is available.
The college provides transportation facility for the students. Buses will be plying through Ernakulam, Ettumanoor, Kuruvilangadu, Muvattupuzha, Pala, Piravom, Ramapuram, Thodupuzha and Vazhithala.
Training and Placement:
A full fledged placement cell functions at BTCC to coordinate placement and training for students to appear for interviews and group discussions during their final semesters. A panel of in-house experts and external resource persons guides the students to make judicious career choices in accordance with their aptitude, ability and knowledge. The cell maintains good relations with industry and is the primary interface for campus recruitment.
Soft-skills training is provided to students starting from their first year itself. We have an on-going programme of training. We start with classes and sessions aimed for students to achieve Personal excellence, improving communicative skills, developing right habits and attitudes and exercises that aim in developing their Group discussion and Interview skills. Baselios Empowerment Scholarship Test ( BEST ) is an examination conducted by Baselios Thomas I Catholicose College of Engineering and Technology to find the deserving students of the society and award them scholorships without any socio-economic discrimination. Here what matters is the ability and performance of the students, nothing else. Students who appeared 12th class exam in science stream are eligible to write BEST.
