State Institute of Hotel Management
The State Institute of Hotel Management (SIHM) Balangir has been set up with joint assistance from the Govt. of Odisha and Govt. of India with a view to training and developing skilled manpower for the dynamic Hotel Tourism Industry.
Started in the year 2004, the Institute is currently offering four different demand-driven courses in core hospitality operations. The SIHM currently operates from a beautiful building in a picturesque location on the outskirts of Balangir town on the Balangir – Titlagarh state highway.
Keeping in view the advancements in the ever evolving hospitality industry, the Institute has been equipped with modern labs to effectively train prospective students in the various aspects of Hotel Operations. The Institute also provides hostel accommodation for both boys and girls.
A team of qualified faculty members promises to ensure that a student not only learns the intricacies of hotel operations but is also offered a career through a proactive placement cell.

The Institute has an active Placement cell, headed by a senior faculty member which acts in close co-ordination with established hostel chains as well as organization like the IRCTC in order to secure maximum jobs to its students. National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology is an autonomous body under Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. The Council centrally regulates academics for hospitality and hotel administration and other eleven structured courses of studies that are imparted at the existing 24 Institutes of Hotel Management and 7 Food Craft Institutes located in different parts of the country. All Institutes uniformly follow standardized course curricula prescribed by the Council for the twelve different professional programmes.
Quality of education and training provided by the Institutes helps student to emerge as professionally qualified personnel for hospitality and other allied service sectors. The Council has till date trained more than 30,000 Hospitality Managers, Executives and other operational personnel. Its alumni occupy key positions in hospitality industry and in academic institutions in India and abroad.
The Institute attracts students from diverse background not only from across the State of Odisha but from neighboring States like West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhatisgarh and Bihar etc. Starting with only 16 students in 2004-05, the Institute has consistently grown in strength with a total of 95 students enrolling themselves in 2010-11.At least 98% of all students taken by the Institute in the period from 2004-05 to 2010-11 have been provided with employment both in the government sector and non- government sector. The placement cell of the Institute is constant in its endeavors to connect with as many Hostels and Restaurants as possible in order to explore further possibilities for its students in this particular regard.
