The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) was set up in 1963 by the Government of India as an autonomous organisation to help professionalise the country’s foreign trade management and increase exports by developing human resources; generating, analysing and disseminating data; and conducting research. MBA (INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS)
Development in the international marketing on the one hand and the consequential impact of the same on India’s domestic market on the other, call for a professional approach and sensitivity to international business environment. The MBA (International Business) is a foundational course for developing a competent cadre of business executives to meet the country’s growing requirements for training personnel in the field of international management. MBA (IB) is a six trimester general management programme with a focus on international business. The programme aims at providing a comprehensive coverage incorporating all the important areas and disciplines relevant to international business activities. The syllabi for MBA (IB) compares favorably with the syllabi of some of the world’s best International Business Schools.
Recognized Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years’ duration in any discipline.
Candidates appearing for a qualifying examination can also apply subject to submission of proof of requisite qualification by beginning of October of the year of start of the course.
No age limit.
Mode of Admission:
On the basis of Written test, Essay write-up, Group Discussion and Interview.
The Written Test is organised at Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Jamshedpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur and Visakhapatnam.
Based on marks obtained in the written test, candidates are called for Group Discussion and Interview to be held between fourth week of January and middle of February at Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow and Mumbai.
One of the largest of its kind in the developing world, with a holding of around 84,000 volumes and subscriptions to 800 journals with complete online cataloguing, the IIFT Library is a veritable storehouse of information. Besides being an invaluable place of reference for industry, research scholars and students alike, the Library has an unique collection of publications of FAO, IMF, OECD, UNCTAD, UNCTC, World Bank, and other international agencies. The students have access to database such as the NIC, CMIE, India Trades, World Bank Indicators and other audio-visual aids on management. IIFT has set up the WTO Resource Centre in the Library to focus exclusively on WTO issues. The Centre is the only one of its kind in India, which enhances the utility of the IIFT Library even further. Besides the main Library, there is a Library-cum-Reading Room open round-the-clock, situated in the hostel.
Foreign Trade Library:
The Foreign Trade Library is a knowledge bank in the field of Management, Foreign Trade and WTO related issues. It has an organized collection of Information resources on International Business & Economic Environment which are accessible in printed or e-form to its Readers for their reference or borrowing. It continued with its endeavor to add to its collection specialized publications, reports, Databases, e-Journals, Print Journals, Articles etc. and get itself updated regularly. Presently Library has an impressive collection of 1,00,990 resources that comprises74,008 book/CDs-volumes, 17381 bound periodicals, and 447 periodicals & 4000 articles.
The MBA (International Business) is a fully residential programme. There is a separate wing for girl students. Computers are provided in every hostel room with 2 MBPS Internet connectivity. The Institute also has residential facilities for participants of its Management Development Programme The Delhi Campus has 3 hostels:

- 2.New Hostel(NH)
- 3.C-9 Hostel
There is an in house mess, Nescafe, Coffee Day & Canteen to serve the students.
Recognizing the importance of technology in education, IIFTs Computer Centre has implemented latest state of the art IT infrastructure. IIFT uses IT to provide a competitive advantage in its core areas of education and research. The Computer Center aims at providing 99 per cent up-time including ensuring server up-time, data recovery and backup, facilitating storage management, hardware, network operations, streamlining operations and simplifying end-user support. All IT infrastructure in the campus is provided power through centralized UPS. Failover has been taken care at all possible level.
The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade has extended beyond Delhi and has chosen West Bengal as the region to establish its first ever campus outside Delhi. The Government of West Bengal has allotted a land of 7 acres with a provision for further three acres in 2006 regarding the same. With the active support of both Central and State Governments, the Kolkata campus of IIFT will be operational from its own premises in this year. The new campus will be having all the state-of the art facilities for International Business education, training and research. In order to make the campus more relevant to the region, it is proposed to offer courses more specific to the region which can help the industry to get the right manpower addressing the current demands of the environment.
