Motilal Nehru College is one of the largest constituent colleges of Delhi University. The year 2014 marks the Golden Jubilee of the college. Beginning with a humble setting in a government school building in 1964 with an enrollment of 300 students, the college shifted to its present location in 1989 and now has an enrollment of over 3000 students coming from all parts of India and from abroad.
The college boasts of a sprawling campus, huge library, technologically enabled conference room, spacious lecture theatres and excellent sports facilities. The entire campus is Wi-fi enabled and all students can have free uninterrupted access to internet connectivity.

Over the past fifty years, our students and faculty members have brought laurels to the institution by excelling in academics, sports, social science and cultural activities. Our alumni have also done us proud with their achievements in administration, judiciary, entrepreneurship, creativity and other areas.
The current batch of enrolled students has continued with the tradition of excellence in academic and extra-curricular activities. Our students have done exceedingly well in the examinations with some securing University positions. We have scored hundred percent results in most departments.
We are privileged to have inspiring faculty members in the college. Besides imparting knowledge through their classes our teachers also engage in research that contributes to the University as well as to the society.
As an institution responsible towards its environment our college was among the first to adopt rain water harvesting. The college also constantly accesses newly developed technologies that minimize the use of our depleting natural resources. This year the college will make operational a compost pit in the college campus to maximize resource management in the college.
The library of the college boasts of a collection of more than one lakh books, scores of periodicals and several newspapers and magazines. Start this with a total of 101590 volumes. During the current year 1310 volumes worth Rs. 4,90,000 were added during the current year in vision the total to 10,2900 volume. The library has more than 21626 books in the book bank/student aid fund section. The library is presently subscribing to 86 periodicals of literary, scientific and general interest. The number of books loaned during the period of july 2011 to jan 2012 was, 6,43,450. The library remains open from 8.30 A.M. to 5.00 P.M. on all working days. It also functions on Saturdays from 9.00 A.M. to 5.30 P.M.
The college has facilities for outdoor as well as indoor sports like Hockey, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Carrum Aquatics, Wrestling, Power Lifting, etc.
National Service Scheme (N.S.S):
The National Service Scheme is a programme for students in educational institutes run by the Govt. of India through the University to pay services to the society besides their academic curriculum. A few of the programmes run by the college are as follows:- 1. Blood Donation 2. Educating Slum Children 3. Help to cancer/AIDS patient 4. Service to old age home. Those who want to join the NSS should apply on the prescribed form to the Programme Officer of the college after the college re-openes. The main objective of the scheme is to encourage students into a variety of community services. The number of students intake is 250 for the new session 2011-2012 on first -cum-first serve basis.
Motilal Nehru College has a very modern technological enabled barrier free inclusive and environment friendly infrastructure. The College has every facility that is required in every modern higher education institution.
The College has a rich collection of books, journals and periodicals at present count, the college has 1,07,586 volumes. The library subscribers to about 86 periodicals and magazines of scientific and general interest. The library also has more than 22206 books in the book bank/student aid fund section. The library has an up-to-date online catalogue (OPAC) of its holdings for all users, 21 computer stations with internet facility are also available for the library members. The library has two computer stations with specialized software for visually challenged students.
The canteen provides a variety of dishes at subsidized rates for students and staff members of the College. The canteen is located in a beautiful corner of the campus with both indoor and outdoor seating. The students can use the canteen facilities during college hours.
The College has a medical room adequately equipped to meet any medical emergencies in the College. A qualified and experienced medical doctor is available in the medical room from 11:00 A.M. to 01:00 P.M. on all working days. Students can avail of this facility free of charge.

The room is equipped with the latest audio-visual and multimedia equipment. The College has hosted numerous national and international conferences and seminars in this room.
The College maintains a fully air-conditioned Digital Resource Centre with 61 computer stations and is equipped with LAN as well as Wi-Fi internet connectivity with complete power backup. Each of the computers is loaded with all the software’s required for the students’ academic projects and activities. Every student of the College can freely access the facilities of the lab during college working hours. Besides the common access Digital Resource Centre, the College also has dedicated computer labs for departments of Computer Science, Mathematics, Commerce, Physics and Chemistry.
Motilal Nehru College is a fully Wi-Fi enabled campus with free internet access for every student of the College. Every student of the College is provided with a unique username and password enabling him/her to access internet connectivity on all supporting devices.
Life on Campus:
Motilal Nehru College has a vibrant campus life with year-round activities carried out by students under various societies and committees. The bodies organize symposia, seminars, shows, competitions and other functions and provide an opportunity to the students to showcase and develop their talents to their full potential. All committees work under the active supervision of teachers.
1. The Governing body grants scholarship to six students on the basis of excellence in the University Examinations.
2. A merit award will be given to a student of B.Com (Hons.) 1st year who scores at least 60% marks in aggregate in all papers and first position in the college. Other details of the award will be put up on the notice board after the re-opening of the college for the session 2011-2012.
The College Magazine “Navagat” publishes reviews of educational, cultural, social and sports activities of the College and articles by the students and staff. The magazine is edited by an Editorial Board.
Students’ Union is the premier student body in the college. Its membership is compulsory for all students of the college. Its aims are to cultivate the quality of leadership, public speaking, organization, self-expression and initiative among students. It promotes intellectual and cultural development of its members and endeavors to give them training in the method and functioning of democratic institutions.
Academic Societies and Seminars:
Students play a vital role in the corporate life of the college. All teaching departments have their academic societies for organizing debates, seminars, symposia, talks and group discussions. Membership of such societies is confined only to teachers and students of the subjects concerned. However, inter-Disciplinary curricular activities are encouraged and each society holds seminars, symposia in which other Departments also participate.
The Cultural Society promotes hidden talents in the field of Dance, Debate, Drama, Music, Poetry-recitation, etc. It organizes a three day Inter-College cultural festival CULFEST during the IInd term. Cultural activities and competitions are held throughout the year and teams are prepared for participating in the Inter-College Cultural Competitions. Students are advised to fill in the required form available with the Convener of the Cultural Society.
Fee Concession Concession & Student aid Funds
The fee concession is given to the students of economically weaker section on the basis of income certificate of their parents. Financial assistance in deserving cases may also be given for payment of University Examination Fees, purchase of books, clothing and medicines from the students Aid Fund of the College.
