Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal is a Public Charitable Trust registered under the Society’s Registration Act and Bombay Public Trust Act. From its humble beginnings in 1934, when it took over the Rashtriya Shala, a school established in 1921 in the wake of the National Movement, the Mandal today has grown into a big educational complex imparting high-level education to more than 35,000 students.
The ethos of the Mandal, is marked by patriotic fervor, selfless service and a spirit of indigenous enterprise. These values permeate all the institutions set up by the Mandal and are the guiding principles for all of them. After beginning its journey in the early 1930s SVKM has blossomed into an educational colossus that has attained national recognition in multiple streams of higher education. With a strong guiding philosophy of providing education to all levels of the student community along with creating a feeling of bonding and commitment amongst academic and nonacademic employees. SVKM has mastered the art of being able to transform itself into a close knit family and at the same time help its students to attain all-round development, be employable and achieve success.
Over the past 80 years, the Mandal has developed a large educational complex in Vile Parle, in Suburban Mumbai and has spread its wings to metro cities like, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Navi Mumbai, etc., SVKM today is proud of some of the finest educational institutes in the country like NMIMS deemed to be University, N.M. College of Commerce and Economics, Mithibai College, D.J. Sanghvi College of Engineering, Bhagubhai Mafatlal Polytechnic – to name a few. It has also in its family schools from Nursery to Secondary, Jr. College providing ICSE or IB, IGCSE curriculum or CBSE curriculum. With a strong vision and passion for being the pioneers of the modern education system, all SVKM institutes are state of the art, with ever expanding facilities and infrastructure.

S.B.M.Polytechnic has huge state of art library with a large collection of Reference Books, Text Books, Technical reports, Literature books. The library has over 16 international journals and 22 national journals along with regional and national newspapers in Marathi, Hindi, English and Gujrati. The Library is being managed with fully integrated multi-user Library Management Software named LIBSYS and bar coding. Using this software, cataloguing and circulation services are being automated. In the library internet facility for students and staff is available with 16 PCs form morning 8.30 am to 7.30 pm. An online access to E- journal and many reference books available in library. The library has spacious reading room with seating capability of 120 students. There are two important services rendered by library for the welfare of the students.
Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal established this Polytechnic in 1963 with a munificent donation of RS. 7,50,000/- from Shri Arvind N. Mafatlal and his brothers and named the same after their uncle Shri Bhagubhai Mafatlal.
Mafatlal family and their industries have taken keen interest in developing the same and given financial support which stands at RS. 43,26,000/- at present. The Polytechnic receives Grants and Project fund from the State and Central Governments for establishing facilities and developing its infrastructures. The Polytechnic has developed excellent interaction and liaison with industries and has received financial support for a variety of projects and towards equipment support.
S.B.M. Polytechnic has created a name for itself by maintaining high standard of discipline and performance. The Polytechnic believes in organising need-based programmes and assisting in-service personnel in education and training activities. The Polytechnic has developed Sandwich Programmes and has diversified its conventional programmes initiated in 1963 into variety of discipline areas as First Level as well as Post-Diploma Level along with in-service programmes. The Polytechnic is a grant-in-aid autonomous institution affiliated to the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education. The Polytechnic is being managed by the duly constituted Managing Council.
