About The Exam
Apart from XLRI, there are over 50 other Management Institutes which considers XAT as the selection medium for admission in to their institute. XIM [Xavier Institute of Management] Bhubaneswar, LIBA [Loyola Institute of Business Administration], Chennai, XIME Bangalore to name a few.

XAT is conducted for admission in to the following programs:

  • Two Year Post Graduate Program in Business Management, Personnel Management & Industrial Relations
  • One year General Management Program
  • Four year Fellow Program in Management

To register for XAT, candidates have to fill the XAT Form online at www.xlri.edu. Candidates need to follow the set of instruction available on the website, after which he/she will get a unique ID.

This ID will be the identifier for the candidate and same as to be furnished in all future correspondence. Candidate has the option to choose his/her convenient city of answering the test. He/She will be able to choose place from the list of cities specified in the website.

This ID and password are to be indicated for all the future correspondence with XAT Office, Jamshedpur. For writing the XAT, the candidates should select their convenient cities from the list of city-choices available on the web site.

XAT is an objective paper consisting of multiple-choice questions. There are four alternative answers for each question. One mark is awarded for each correct answer and 1/3 mark is deducted for each wrong answer. The duration of the test paper is 2 hours.

The objective paper comprises three sections: (1) Reading Comprehension and Verbal Ability (2) Quantitative Ability, Reasoning and Data Interpretation (3) General Awareness. The pattern of the paper undergoes changes every year.

Unlike most of the B-Schools, XLRI conducts only interviews for the candidates short listed in XAT. XLRI does not conduct Group Discussion as a part of their admission process.
The advertisement for form appears in late August. The entrance exam is usually held on the first Sunday of January and the Interviews are in the month of March.
