This College was established in 1977. Initially it was run in Mahatma Gandhi Vidyalaya, Rajgurunagar. Shri. C. K. Lunawat, Shri Trymbakrao Joshi and Shri. Dadasaheb Pathak extended their co-operation. Initially, the college had only science and commerce faculties. Despite several difficulties, the science members wanted students to avail themselves of job opportunities in the related fields. At the initial stage, the strength was 205, which increased gradually. In 1983, the Faculty of Arts was also started. At present, there are three full-fledged faculties with post-graduate Departments of Marathi, English, Economics, Political Science, Commerce and Chemistry. In the academic year 2014-2015, the total strength of the college was 1508. Out of this, 598 were female students. We have sought the permission to start Community College.
The college has an independent library building named after Sarnyayadhish Yashwantrao Chandrachud Granthalaya. Hon’ble Shri Yashwantrao Chandrachud is the son of the soil. He was the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India. It suggests that the Institution cherishes the ideal of scholarship. The Hutatma Smarak handed over by the Govt. of Maharashtra is used as the reading hall for the students.
The college also highlights the importance of sports in life. The well-furnished gymkhana and other sports facilities encourage the students to participate in sports activities. The sport complex developed by the college is called Shahid Bhagat Singh Stadium.
Honorable Shri Yashwantrao Chandrachud born in Pune on 12th July, 1920 .He was the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India. He received Yashwantrao Chavan National Award for National integration, democratic values and social and economic development in India, 2006.
The main objective of central library is to support and enrich the instructional, research and public service missions of the College through the stewardship of scholarly information and the delivery of information services. The institute has computerized library with internet and multimedia facilities. It has a very good collection of text books, reference books, hand books, national and international journals & periodicals.
Gymkhana & Sports:
There are different types of national and international games which are played in the college. Our college sends the teams of our college to participate in Inter–Collegiate competitions to play at Inter-zonal, State, National and all India Inter-University level competitions.
The players are guided and they have certain facilities in our college for exercise. State level or national level players are also awarded by our college. The college also provides various facilities such as track suit, shoes, sports kit, TA/DA for the players.
Ladies Hostel :
During the academic year 2010 – 11, total 100 girl students can get admission in the ladies hostel. It is run by K.T.S.P. Mandal. The students from tribal, hilly regions will be given admission in the girl’s hostel. Senior college girl students will be given first preference. The girl students who are interested to take admission in girl’s hostel have to contact Mrs. Suvarna Dhanapune.
Girl’s Hostel – New Building:
A new building for the girl’s hostel will be built from the grant given by University Commission of Pune during the academic year 2009 – 2010. For that purpose, Rs. 90 Lacs have been granted for the new building. Out of 90 lacs, Rs. 45 lacs have already gone to the college to take necessary steps.
Every year, 50 students can take part in N.C.C. Our College organises various camps like National Integration camp, Army Attachment camp, trekking camp, sports camp, annual training camp, etc. N.C.C helps to develop Personality leadership and courage. N.C.C is useful to get jobs in defense or other places.
At present, the cadets strength allotted to us by 1 Maharashtra Signal Coy NCC, Puen is 50. The cadets are enrolled in NCC in the month of July every year. Along with the institutional training, cadets from our college participate in various camps like Annual Training Camp, Thal Sainik Camp, Republic Day Camp, National Integration Camp, Trekking Camp, Army Attachmenr Camp, etc. organized by NCC. The cadets are also involved in various social service activities and functions/programs arranged at the college. The percentage of passing certificate “B” and “C” examinations is also very good. The trained NCC cadets prove themselves to be useful even after they pass out because they really show UNITY and DISCIPLINE.
The college has started N.S.S under Pune University to create interest about social work among the students. 250 students take part in the N.S.S every year. N.S.S provides qualities like unity in diversity, national integration, solidarity work experience and leadership among the students.
