Smt. B. K. Shah Medical Institute & Research Centre, is a constituent college of Sumandeep Vidyapeeth University, At & Po Piparia, Ta Waghodia, Dist Vadodara, Gujarat -391760. It is part of Private State University under Section 3 of UGC, Unitary affiliating type. Main Campus area is around 65 Acres. The College is situated in rural area.
Smt. B.K. Shah Medical Institute & Research Centre was granted permission by Medical Council of India & Government of India on 30th September 2003 with intake capacity of 150 Medical Students. At the time of inception the college was affiliated to Gujarat University. On 17th January 2007 Deemed University status was awarded to the University U/S 3 of UGC act of 1956. After that Smt. B. K. Shah Medical Institute & Research Centre is one of the constituent of Sumandeep Vidyapeeth. The M.B.B.S Degree was recognized in 30/06/ 2008. The Medical Council of India had conducted inspection in various subjects, during September 2008 to February 2009 following which The Government of India gave permission to start Post Graduate courses in 69 Post Graduate degree in 20 subjects and 25 Post Graduate Diploma seats were permitted .First batch of Post Graduate student at Smt. B. K. Shah Medical Institute & Research Centre were admitted by Sumandeep Vidyapeeth on the basis of All India Entrance Test conducted by Sumandeep Vidyapeeth. The 1st batch admission was completed before 31st May 2009. in subsequent years, the number of PG degree seats and PG diploma seats in various subjects have been increased. Currently 113 Pg degree seats and 25 diploma seats are available. In addition super speciality courses in (D.M./M.Ch.) have been started in five disciplines. Currently five seats are available in super speciality courses.
Dhiraj hospital, affiliated to the college, was established in year 2002 and at present has developed into 1360 bedded tertiary care teaching hospital with state of art facilities.

CENTRAL CLINICAL LABORATORY:
The Central Clinical Laboratory offers services in investigation related to Biochemistry, Pathology and Microbiology. It caters to the needs of OPD and indoor patients. Laboratory functions for 24 hours a day and 365 days of a year. Routine investigations are accepted till 5:00p.m. after which only emergency investigations are accepted.
SERVICES OFFERED BY BLOOD BANK:
Department of Pathology at Dhiraj General Hospital and S.B.K.S. Medical College and research centre of Sumandeep Vidyapeeth offers services in sphere of patient care and, training, education and research. Blood Bank is part of department of pathology.
Blood bank is functioning since JUNE 2004. Blood Bank has facilities for whole blood and blood component preparation. It confirms the rules and regulation lay down by food and drug control authority, Gujarat state regarding space, equipments, the battery of tests, storage, supply and bleeding procedure. Blood bank has a license for voluntary blood donation camp. Voluntary blood donation is supported by students of Sumandeep Vidyapeeth, NGOs and various organization.
It is headed by head of pathology department and supervised by BBO, professor, asst. prof. It is assisted by resident doctors, technicians and supporting staff. Blood bank works round the clock and meet the required blood demand of planned as well as emergency patients. Average supply of blood unit per year is 2000 units.
There are 6 gallery (air-conditioned) type lecture theatres in the college and 1 in the hospital. Each one has the seating capacity of 300. Lecture theatres are equipped with the state of art audiovisual aids like LCD projector and audio system, overhead projectors, chalk board and internet connectivity etc. One gallery type centrally air-conditioned lecture theatre having seating capacity 650 persons and fully equipped with audiovisual facilities is also available.
Each of the above 8 departments has 4 demonstration rooms ( total 32) with seating capacity of 60-75 students in each. These are used for small group teaching, tutorials, demonstrations etc.
Library:Central Library for both UG and PG students as well as for the staff is available. Central library has facility to accommodate 400 UG students, 300 PG students and 50 teachers in separate rooms. Timing of the library is from 8 AM to 10 PM on working days and reading room is kept open 24 hours by 7 days by 365 days. Library works for 3 shifts every day and is adequately staffed. Central library is fully air-conditioned. Number of the books in the library is 21818. 117 regularly subscribed journals of which 65 are foreign journals are regularly subscribed.
The other facilities in the central library include TV, VCR and photocopy facilities, internet and Medlar, air-conditioned computer lab with 50 nodes and audiovisual room with 1754 CD/DVDs.
Departmental Libraries: Each department has its own library cum seminar room. Departmental library have sufficient number of books for use by the teaching staff and students.
Hostels: Separate hostels are available with capacity to accommodate undergraduate students (400 for boys and 594 girls to accommodate). In addition hostels for postgraduate students are available with 468 accommodation capacity.
Residential Staff quarters: Flat type accommodation for 125 teachers ( Professor/Associate professor/Assistant professors) is available.
Accommodation for 120 nurses is also available.
Recreational facilities: A play ground for games like football, volley ball, cricket etc is available with necessary equipments and paraphernalia. Indoor games like table tennis, carom, chess etc are available in hostels and student common room. A fully equipped gymnasium is also available.
Medical students & staff are accorded priority on attendance and comforts.
They are entitled to 25% on more of concession by the trust on Hospital Charges for self and family.
For non-affording situations more than above is also considered on application by the individual to the trust office.
To the permanent female staff maternity leave is available as per rules.
Free obstetric & neonatal pediatrics services are available to Sumandeep lady staff members.
Immunization & extension Health services are offered to the members of Sumandeep employees.
All staff is otherwise entitled to concessional rates as offered to general public also
